Multiple Images from Single Photographs

As you can guess from the title of this page, the groups of images here are several different versions of the same original photograph. The first image displayed in each group is the original photograph. The following images in each photograph are different in some way.

Since the images in the Image Gallery pages are suitable for use as desktop wallpapers, this page is intended for you to choose not only the image to use as wallpaper, but which version you want to use for wallpaper.

All versions of the photograph other than the originals were created with The GIMP.

Grand Canyon

Original image
of the Grand Canyon

The Grand Canyon is one of the most visited and photographed sites in North America (if not the entire world). The original photograph is an example of an image that usually comes out with a conventional film camera. Obviously, to get the real experience of the Grand Canyon, you must visit the site. (69.3 KB, 1024 x 768)

Color Enhanced View

...or you can just view the color enhanced version of this photograph. The color enhanced version obviously takes up more disk space, as the enhancement involves an increase in color saturation (to make the image look like some pictures taken there with color print film such as the Kodak Max 800 on a clear day.) Of course, as the quality of the photograph improves, the size of the image increases. (72.9 KB, 1024 x 768)

The same image in Black and White

Now here is the same image as a monochromatic (black and white) photograph. (63.7 KB, 1024 x 768)

The same photograph with color enhancement, then converted to greyscale

...and here is what happens when I enhance the color first, then convert the image to greyscale. Here is the enhanced monochromatic version of the original photograph. (63.1 KB, 1024 x 768)

What is interesting here is that the last version, (the enhanced monochromatic version) takes up the least amount of space of all the versions present. The color enhanced version takes up the most space.
